The SHS reinforced piston features a full 15-tooth steel rack and a non-lightened piston body. This design is particularly suitable for setups where you want to determine the required tooth modifications for the piston and sector gear angle of engagement yourself.
Full tooth rack for custom AOE adjustment
In this model, none of the teeth are pre-lowered or removed. This allows the piston angle of engagement, or AOE, to be adjusted specifically for the setup. If necessary, individual teeth can be filed down only as much as required, or for example the second tooth can be removed completely.
Heavier construction for different tuning setups
The piston body is not lightened, so the complete piston assembly is heavier than with a lightweight piston. A heavier piston can help achieve more consistent muzzle velocities in some setups, but the greater moving mass also affects piston movement and the load transferred to the gearbox shell.
For very high rates of fire, a lightweight piston is usually the better choice because a heavier piston changes direction more slowly. If the cycle is fast enough, the piston may not have enough time to return fully to the forward position before the sector gear begins the next cycle. A heavier piston also increases the impact load transferred to the gearbox shell and can produce a lower muzzle velocity than a lighter piston in the same setup.
Features
- 15-tooth steel rack
- All teeth are full height with no pre-made AOE modifications
- Allows the tooth rack to be modified specifically for the setup
- Non-lightened piston body
- Steel teeth improve wear resistance
- Color: purple
We recommend gluing the tooth rack into the piston body during installation. This helps secure the rack and improves the durability of the piston assembly, especially in higher-stress setups.
