The SHS piston head and cylinder head form a Silent Head Set for Version 3 gearboxes. Version 3 gearboxes are used, for example, in many AK-series electric airsoft guns.
Shaped piston head and cylinder head
In the Silent Head Set, the piston head features a protruding, shaped impact surface that matches the corresponding shape of the cylinder head. As the piston moves forward, the protruding section of the piston head enters the center section of the cylinder head just before the end of the stroke. The purpose of this design is to cushion the impact between the piston head and cylinder head and alter the gearbox operating sound.
The piston head and cylinder head are designed to work together, so they are best used as a matched pair. The Silent design differs from a conventional flat piston head and cylinder head combination and provides an alternative solution for building the compression system of a Version 3 gearbox.
