The SHS lightweight piston combines a 15-tooth steel rack with a lightweight piston body. The low moving mass makes it particularly well suited for fast AEG setups and higher rates of fire.
Lightweight piston for fast cycling
A lightweight piston changes direction faster than a heavier piston. This is especially beneficial at high rates of fire, as the piston can return to the forward position more quickly before the next cycle begins. A lighter piston also reduces the impact load transferred to the gearbox shell.
Piston mass can also affect muzzle velocity. In the same setup, a lighter piston can produce a higher muzzle velocity than a heavier piston, although the final result is also affected by factors such as spring strength, cylinder volume, barrel length and BB weight.
Pre-lowered second tooth
The second tooth of the 15-tooth steel rack is pre-lowered for adjusting the angle of engagement between the piston and sector gear. This provides more room for setting the correct engagement angle without immediately having to remove the tooth completely.

We recommend gluing the tooth rack into the piston body during installation. This helps secure the rack and improves the durability of the piston assembly, especially in higher-stress setups.
