This symbol has two origin stories, one claiming that its roots can be found in the United States in the 1960s.
But the more popular version is that this symbol originated in Great Britain, where it was used to remember colleagues who died or were injured in the line of duty. Over time, the symbol spread elsewhere, and now in recent years to Finland.
The term thin blue line most profoundly reflects the sense of solidarity around Police officers and their families. That selfless dedication to one profession takes a special person and an equally special family. Together they form that thin blue line on which the police stand. Between good and evil.
This sign therefore has a deeper purpose than just boosting morale; it is an important symbol of unity for the police.
