The Retro Arms CNC Low Profile Steel Bushings are high-strength 8 mm plain bushings designed for AEG gearboxes. Their low-profile construction is particularly useful in Version 2 gearboxes, where conventional bushings or bearings can protrude from the gearbox shell and interfere with the selector plate.
The bushings are precision CNC-machined from high-grade 90MnCrV8 / 1.2842 tool steel and heat-treated to approximately 58 HRC. The combination of hardened steel and a solid plain-bushing design makes them suitable for demanding gearbox builds where durability and stability are priorities.
Low-profile construction
The reduced external profile helps prevent the bushing from protruding unnecessarily from the side of the gearbox shell. This is particularly beneficial in V2 gearboxes, where a taller bearing or bushing can interfere with the movement of the selector plate and fire selector mechanism.
The low-profile design can also provide additional space for gearbox shimming without sacrificing the durability of a solid steel bushing.
Hardened CNC-machined steel
The bushings are CNC-turned from 90MnCrV8 tool steel and hardened for high load resistance. Unlike ball bearings, plain bushings contain no moving bearing elements, making them a robust option for high-stress AEG configurations.
Tight gearbox fit
The outer diameter is manufactured slightly oversized to provide a secure press fit in a compatible 8 mm gearbox shell. Depending on the gearbox, the bushings may need to be carefully pressed or tapped into position during installation.
If additional retention is required, a suitable retaining compound can be used sparingly. Always check gearbox dimensions before installation, as tolerances vary between manufacturers.
Lubrication
As these are plain bushings, the gear axles and contact surfaces should be properly lubricated with suitable gearbox grease during assembly to minimise friction and wear.
