The VFC Colt M16A2 Carbine V3 GBBR gas rifle is a realistic gas-powered airsoft rifle that accurately replicates the iconic Colt M16A2 carbine model. Manufactured by VFC, this replica leaves little to be desired compared to the real M16A2, with weight, feel, and recoil all precisely modeled.

The development of the M16A2 model began in the late 1970s at the request of the United States Marine Corps. They needed an assault rifle that was more reliable and durable than the M16A1 used during the Vietnam War. The M16A2 was adopted in 1983 and featured significant improvements, such as a stronger barrel, adjustable sights, and a three-round burst mode instead of full-auto fire. The rifle quickly became the standard for the U.S. military and was widely used during the Cold War and the Gulf War.

The M16A2 Carbine was created because the standard M16A2 was effective, but its length (about 100 cm with a fixed stock) made it cumbersome in confined spaces, such as vehicles or urban environments. This created the need for a shorter, more compact version that retained the same caliber and performance.

The M16A2 served as the basis for later M16 versions, such as the M16A3 and M16A4.
