The name of the Maple Leaf MR or "Maximum Range" hop-up bucking reflects its special feature: maximum range. The unique aspect of the MR hop-up bucking is the combination of a traditional, easy-to-install hop-up bucking with an R-hop style patch. Instead of the usual nub, it has an R-hop-like contact surface that completely fills the barrel window, creating a long and even contact area for the BB. This extended contact surface imparts a strong spin on the BB with a gentler effect compared to a standard nub. The smoother and stronger spin allows the use of heavier BBs, improving both accuracy and range.
The MR hop-up bucking also incorporates innovations from Maple Leaf’s earlier versions. The front section of the MR bucking is textured like the Super Macaron, ensuring a tight seal against the barrel and hop-up unit. The lips of the MR bucking are slightly longer than usual, similar to the Super Macaron. These longer and thicker lips provide better air seal. Note! Due to the longer lips, the correct nozzle length is especially important to ensure reliable feeding.
A standard round/flat nub presses the contact area of the bucking into a curved shape, which means the MR hop-up’s long contact surface cannot be fully utilized. We recommend pairing the MR hop-up with Maple Leaf’s own curved nub to maximize performance.
Bucking Hardness Ratings
The hardness rating of hop-up buckings indicates their suitability for different power levels. Generally, the more powerful the replica, the higher the hardness rating should be. Below are the Taiwanese manufacturer’s own recommendations for power ranges. When choosing a bucking, consider these recommendations with some caution in northern climates, as rubber hardens in cold weather. In other words, in cooler conditions, it may be better to choose a slightly softer bucking.
| Hardness and Color |
Recommended Power Range |
| 50 – green |
Under 110 m/s (1.2 J) |
| 60 – yellow |
90-120 m/s (0.8-1.5 J) |
| 70 – blue |
110-140 m/s (1.2-2 J) |
| 75 – red |
130-150 m/s (1.7-2.25 J) |
| 80 – black |
Over 150 m/s (2.25 J) |
