Retro Arms Piston with 19 Steel Teeth
The Retro Arms Piston with 19 Steel Teeth is a reinforced AEG piston designed for gearboxes using an extended 19-tooth piston system. It combines a lightweight fibre-reinforced polymer body with a hardened spring-steel tooth rack, making it suitable for demanding gearbox builds where durability and reliable engagement with the sector gear are important.
The 19-tooth configuration is intended for compatible extended gearbox systems rather than conventional V2 or V3 setups using a standard-length piston. Compatibility should therefore be checked against the gearbox and sector gear before installation.
Reinforced polymer body
The piston body is manufactured from PA6.6 polyamide reinforced with 30% carbon fibre and 5% molybdenum. The carbon-fibre reinforcement increases mechanical strength, while the molybdenum additive helps reduce friction during movement inside the gearbox.
Retro Arms recommends operating the polymer piston body dry without oil or grease. Lubrication should be applied only to the steel tooth rack.
Hardened steel tooth rack
The tooth rack is manufactured from 14260 (54SiCr6) spring steel. The steel is annealed before machining to relieve internal stress, CNC milled and subsequently hardened.
The teeth have a hardness of approximately 52-54 HRC, providing a balance between wear resistance and sufficient flexibility to avoid excessive brittleness.
19-tooth configuration
The extended 19-tooth design is intended for AEG gearbox systems that use a longer piston and corresponding sector gear. This type of arrangement is commonly found in extended gearbox platforms, so it should not be treated as a direct replacement for a standard-length AEG piston.
