The PolarStar Fusion Engine™ was released in 2011 as the first new HPA system to enter the airsoft market in over two decades. This is the system that started the HPA revolution in airsoft and set the benchmark against which all other systems are compared. While many have followed, the Fusion Engine™ is still recognized by most dedicated airsoft techs as the best HPA engine available. This system won the title of “Best HPA Engine” in the very first year Popular Airsoft introduced the HPA category to the Player’s Choice Awards.
The Fusion Engine is a complete pneumatic system that replaces the entire AEG gearbox with a fully CNC-machined lightweight aluminum chassis. The Fusion Engine offers the best tuning capabilities on the market, providing the widest range of adjustments for air flow into the system, rate of fire, and muzzle velocity. Its dual-solenoid design allows independent control of the poppet valve, which governs airflow through the system, and the nozzle movement. Additionally, the internal airflow of the poppet valve and nozzle can be fine-tuned using different poppet valves and nozzles with various flow ports. For airsoft techs seeking top-tier performance from an HPA platform, the Fusion Engine provides the ultimate foundation for any build.
The Fusion Engine supports a true closed-bolt system, which means it can be used to build an extremely accurate airsoft gun. A closed-bolt setup is less dependent on the hop-up unit’s component alignment compared to an open-bolt design. The trigger feel of the Fusion Engine is highly precise, as the trigger’s microswitch is custom-fitted to the chassis, resulting in a distinct break, firm stop, and short reset.

Additionally, six different nozzles are available, each providing a different level of restriction, allowing for a wide range of velocity adjustment up or down in large increments. | This system was primarily designed to deliver maximum performance, so air efficiency was not a critical focus during development. However, thanks to the modular design of the poppet valve, the system can be fine-tuned by using more restrictive valve closures and adjustment plates, which can more than double air efficiency when operating at typical field velocities. |
