Polarstar F2 Tokyo Marui M14 HPA Conversion Kit
The Polarstar F2 Tokyo Marui M14 HPA Conversion Kit is a model-specific, semi-automatic HPA conversion system designed for Tokyo Marui M14 airsoft rifles. The kit replaces the original AEG compression and firing components with a compact dual-solenoid PolarStar F2 Offset engine.
The Version 7 gearbox used in the Tokyo Marui M14 has a vertically offset nozzle. A conventional centre-line HPA engine cannot therefore align correctly with the original M14 hop-up chamber. This conversion kit uses the F2 Offset front cylinder and an O-12 Offset nozzle specifically configured for the Tokyo Marui M14.
F2 Offset system for the Tokyo Marui M14
The F2 Offset uses the same rear cylinder, poppet valve and principal internal components as the standard PolarStar F2. Its redesigned front cylinder allows the nozzle to operate above or below the centre line of the engine, making the system compatible with replicas such as the M14 that use an offset-nozzle gearbox.
The offset nozzle is supported by a stainless-steel support pin. This stabilises the extended two-piece nozzle and reduces unwanted vertical movement while loading a BB, helping the nozzle enter the hop-up chamber consistently.
Tokyo Marui-specific O-12 nozzle
This version is supplied with the PolarStar O-12 Offset nozzle developed for the Tokyo Marui M14. The O-12 nozzle tip measures approximately 0.805 inches, or 20.45 mm.
Nozzle length varies between M14 replicas from different manufacturers. The Tokyo Marui version must therefore not be confused with other M14 conversion kits:
- Tokyo Marui M14: O-12 Offset nozzle
- CYMA and compatible G&P M14 models: O-5 Offset nozzle
- G&G M14: O-1 Offset nozzle
This kit is intended for a Tokyo Marui M14 with its corresponding original-style gearbox and hop-up geometry. Compatibility should be checked carefully if the rifle contains gearbox, hop-up or receiver components from another manufacturer.
Independent nozzle and air control
The F2 uses two solenoids. One controls the movement of the nozzle, while the other controls the poppet valve that releases the firing air. The FCU allows the loading cycle and firing-air volume to be adjusted independently.
Adjustable parameters include nozzle dwell, poppet dwell and loading timing. This allows the operation of the engine to be tuned to the magazine, hop-up components, barrel and selected pressure.
True closed-bolt operation
The F2 can operate in true closed-bolt mode. In this mode, the BB is already chambered and the nozzle is in its forward position before the trigger is pulled. Pulling the trigger releases the firing air, after which the nozzle cycles to load the next BB.
The FCU can also be configured for an AEG-style loading sequence. These settings change the operating sequence of the engine, but this Tokyo Marui M14 configuration remains semi-automatic only.
Semi-automatic M14 configuration
The Tokyo Marui M14 conversion uses a universal plugboard with separate trigger leads. The leads are soldered to the contacts of the rifle’s original trigger switch and connected to the plugboard.
The M14 kit does not use an electronic selector input, so this configuration provides semi-automatic fire only. FCU settings related to fully automatic or burst fire do not add those firing modes to this M14 installation.
Adjustable power
The recommended operating-pressure range of the F2 is 45-145 PSI. Muzzle velocity and energy are adjusted primarily by changing the output pressure of the HPA regulator.
The actual output depends on factors including inner-barrel length and diameter, hop-up components, air seal, BB weight and installation quality. The completed replica must always be tested with a chronograph and adjusted to comply with the applicable field limits.
The F2 is designed for use with high-pressure air or nitrogen. A suitable air tank, regulator, remote line and fittings are required to operate the system.
Installation requires gearbox modification
The F2 Offset is installed inside the original Tokyo Marui M14 gearbox shell after the gears, piston, cylinder assembly and other unnecessary AEG components have been removed.
PolarStar states that the Tokyo Marui and CYMA M14 installation processes follow the same general procedure. Minor modifications to the gearbox shell are required to provide sufficient clearance and practical air-line routing:
- Material must be removed from the left gearbox shell near the sector-gear and piston-track area to provide clearance for the F2 Offset mechanism.
- Material must be removed from the reinforced area of the right gearbox shell near the bevel-gear section to create an unobstructed route for the air line.
- The included trigger leads must be soldered to the contacts of the original M14 trigger switch.
- The trigger leads, wire harness and air line must be routed carefully through the rear and lower sections of the gearbox.
- A small hole must normally be drilled in the grip to allow the air line to exit the rifle.
Before closing the gearbox, make sure that no wires are trapped between the shell halves. The nozzle must also be checked for correct alignment with the hop-up chamber and inner barrel after the gearbox has been installed in the rifle.
Installation requires complete disassembly of the rifle, soldering, gearbox modification and HPA-system experience. Professional installation is recommended if the installer is not familiar with M14 gearboxes and electronic HPA systems.
